The original solution was built on a relational database for record aggregation. We moved this functionality out of the database, allowing the application to handle all the logic and integrating a more appropriate type of database for record storage. Performance has improved significantly, but the best part is that they can now scale this part of the system horizontally without bottlenecks or limitations.
